Catechists provide special religious education for Catholic children in Public primary schools.  Lessons of 30 minutes in duration and are given on a weekly basis.

Any Catholic can be a Catechist all that is required is a love of your faith and to share that faith with children. New Catechists and helpers are always welcome to join this friendly team. Please give your names to George Boersma via the Parish Office.

The Secondary Schools S.R.E (Special Religious Education) Teachers

There are currently ten S.R.E. teachers on the Secondarry Schools'  team.  There are two High Schools in the Terrigal area receiving  S.R.E; Terrigal High School, Charles Kay Drive, Terrigal and Erina High School, Ernest St, Erina. Four Team members attend Erina High School and eight to ten members’ attend Terrigal High School.

Seminars are conducted on five weeks of the school term, covering Year 7 through to Year 12.  Each class receives a seminar of one and a quarter hours per term. The students are placed in groups of approximately four and each group has a team  leader.  A team leader conducts the seminars.

There is lots of small group work to accommodate Scripture readings, group discussion and  activities; D.V.D's and music are often a part of the seminars. Prayer is an integral part of the High School Seminars and our aim is to  bring our students into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, by  getting to know Him and then in knowing Him, respond to Him. Contact Betty Brown via the Parish Office for more information.

Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School

The school is the educational arm of our Terrigal Parish.  It is staffed by a dedicated team of teachers who aim to work in partnership with the Parish Priests and the parish to nurture and educate the children of the parish.  Being a Catholic school we have developed a philosophy based on Gospel Values.

We aim to create a climate in the school which is truly religious and supportive of parish initiatives.  Although the parish is responsible for the Sacramental Programs, the staff supports the faith education of all students in formal and informal programs.

Parents are an integral part of our education program, thus we work in partnership with them in the education of their children.

We aim to offer a broad range of opportunities for each child including religious education, academic subjects, sporting opportunities and personal development programs.  Programs cater for the individual differences of children.

Social activities are arranged for children, parents and all parishioners.

Children’s Liturgy – Sunday School Liturgy

We are currently looking at resuming this ministry for children 4 years and over (including all Primary School Children) before the end of 2015.

Previously it was held at the 8.30am Sunday Mass (in school term), and after a blessing from Father in the church they went to the Parish Hall with the facilitator and helpers and came back into the church to be with their families after the homily.

For more information, contact the Parish Office.

Parish Playgroup (Monday) and Village Playgroup (Tuesday)

The Parish Play runs the first Monday of the month in terms 1, 2 & 3, 8:30 am till 10:30 / 11am.  It is a casual, low key play group that is very hands off so  mums can have a chat.  The coffee van continues to visit for our morning tea and the younger siblings have a little play in the hall.

Each week on a Monday in term 4, 9am to 10:30am families with children attending kinder the following year attend.  We play games with them to help them develop friendships, have pre-planned arts and crafts projects etc and have organised excursions with the school for the children to experience the class rooms. There are also sports play days in the school grounds and picnic days away at play parks.

Anyone is welcome to attend the Monday play group throughout the year.  However for term 4 activities are all aimed at the 5 to 6 year olds, and the term 1, 2 & 3 first Monday of the month group meet is flexible.
